I have always loved to sing. And I have always dreamed of doing something I love for a living. So I feel very lucky that I get to do both these things!
I left school and started work as a nursery nurse and qualified with my NVQ level 3 in childcare. I loved working with children and initially thought about training to be a teacher but after leaving the nursery I fell into a job at Vodafone temping and stayed there for a few years. The pay was good but I wasn't very fulfilled in what I did. At the time, singing was just a hobby that I dreamed one day could be more. I had reached grade 8 and performed at a number of productions in my local area but singing was very much still a hobby at that time.
Just before lockdown in 2020, I was made redundant from my job at Vodafone which I felt was a bit of a relief in many ways and I wondered whether I could look on the redundancy as an opportunity to try singing teaching. With a bit of encouragement from various family members, I overcame my imposter syndrome and started teaching. I started out with one young client, which soon grew to three. From there it snowballed and I now have more than 20 private clients who dip in and out of private lessons with ages ranging from 6 to 76!
I am very lucky to be able to spend my days doing what I love for a living and can only hope that I pass on some of this passion and enthusiasm for music to my clients.
