If you're anything like me, you will feel nervous before an audition - in fact nerves can give you an added adrenalin boost to enhance your performance. But how can you control the nerves enough to put in the quality performance you know you can pull off?
Practice, Practice Practice
It may seem obvious but an audition should be the push you need to make sure you rehearse and prepare as much as possible. However you also need to balance this with not overstraining your throat, which can become exhausted.
2. Warm-Ups
Vocal warm-ups are essential for your singing to hit the trickiest notes of the song you want to show off to the best of your ability at the audition. Make sure short, daily warm-ups are part of your practice routine.
3. Breathing Exercises
One of the simplest ways to prepare your voice for an audition is by practising some simple breathing exercises. Deep breathing is one of the easiest ways to lower stress in the body and allows your body to properly support your voice whilst singing.
4. Food and Drink
You can't under-estimate the importance of eating the right food particularly before an audition to maximise the potential of your voice. Avoid milk and caffeinated drinks and stick to warm water and herbal teas instead. Fruit and salads are good foods to prepare you but avoid dairy products and overly spicy food.
5. Dress to Impress
You might think that if your voice is good enough you should get the part - right? Wrong! First impressions count so dress up, look the part and own it!
